چکیده

Quantum Monte Carlo simulations of interacting electrons in solids often use Slater-Jastrow trial wave functions. The Jastrow function takes into account correlations between pairs of electrons. In simulations of solids, it is common to use a Jastrow function which is both homogeneous and isotropic. The use of a homogeneous and isotropic Jastrow factor is questionable in applications to systems with strong density inhomogeneities, such as surfaces and multilayers. By generalizing the original derivation of the RPA Jastrow factor for the homogeneous electron gas [1] to inhomogeneous systems we derive an scheme for generating inhomogeneous and anisotropic Jastrow factors for use in nonuniform systems, from the non-interacting static structure factor and density of the system. We discuss aspects of our scheme and illustrate it with a first application to an inhomogeneous electron gas.

Jastrow correlation factor for atoms, molecules, and solids

Many-electron wave functions may be accurately and compactly approximated by a product of a small number of Slater determinants and a positive Jastrow correlation factor. The Jastrow factor is an explicit function of the electronelectron separations, so that expectation values calculated with a Slater-Jastrow wave function do not separate in the electron coordinates. Nevertheless, the variation...

Shear Waves Through Non Planar Interface Between Anisotropic Inhomogeneous and Visco-Elastic Half-Spaces

A problem of reflection and transmission of a plane shear wave incident at a corrugated interface between transversely isotropic inhomogeneous and visco-elastic half-spaces is investigated. Applying appropriate boundary conditions and using Rayleigh’s method of approximation expressions for reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained for the first and second order approximation of the...

Optimization of the Jastrow factor in the correlated wave function of electrons using the first-principles transcorrelated method for solid-state calculations

The transcorrelated (TC) method is one of the wave-function-based methods used for first-principles electronic structure calculations, and in terms of the computational cost is applicable to solid-state calculation. In this method, a many-body wave function of electrons is approximated as a product of the Jastrow factor and the Slater determinant, and the first-principles Hamiltonian is similar...

A new Jastrow factor for atoms and molecules, using two-electron systems as a guiding principle

To get an idea of the qualitative behavior of an optimal Jastrow factor we have considered a Hylleraas-type wave function of very high accuracy for the helium atom. Owing to the lack of nodes this wave function can be easily interpreted as a general type of Jastrow factor. As a result we obtained a simple parameter dependent ansatz for a Jastrow factor, which incorporates the essential features...

Spin contamination in quantum Monte Carlo wave functions

The wave function usually employed in quantum Monte Carlo ~QMC! electronic structure calculations is the product of a Jastrow factor and a sum of products of up-spin and down-spin determinants. Typically, a different Jastrow factor is used for paralleland antiparallel-spin electrons in order to satisfy the cusp conditions and thereby ensure that the local energy at electron– electron coincidenc...
